microcad Viewer: Viewer and text editor integration for the geometry description language microcad

What is the project about?

In industrial manufacturing, geometric descriptions are required for simulations, the creation of programs for industrial robots, or the generation of 3D printing files. CAD software is used for this purpose. Unfortunately, there is a strong vendor lock-in effect in the CAD software industry due to proprietary file formats or cloud coercion. µcad is an open source description language for modeling parameterizable geometric objects, for which a 3D viewer and a plugin for a text editor are to be developed during the project.

Which audience does the project address?

The target audience consists of makers, engineers, and small and medium-sized businesses. The language should be easy to learn and therefore accessible to people with little programming experience — this is enhanced by the visual representation of the programmed descriptions in real time.

What is to be achieved?

The project consists of two parts: On the one hand, the 3D renderer, which can display the changes described in real time. On the other hand, an interface ensures communication between the renderer and the text editor. With a single click, the linked code or geometry should be displayed in the code or in the 3D view.
