What is the project about?

Collectives Desktop is an offline-first, collaborative knowledge repository with Markdown documents. It enables the use of the Nextcloud app Collectives without a continuous network connection and on the user's own desktop, thus reducing barriers to entry and collaboration. The knowledge repository is available immediately after setup—no login, no navigating through Nextcloud with other apps. The interface is consistent with the web and mobile versions. Interrupted network connections do not interfere with editing. Changes made during interrupted network connections are synchronized as soon as possible.

Which audience does the project address?

Collectives Desktop is intended to reach the existing user base of Nextcloud Collectives and, in particular, to better support the work of civil society initiatives that use Collectives. In addition, improvements to Nextcloud Texts, a pre-installed Nextcloud app, will also benefit all other Nextcloud users.

What is to be achieved?

The goal of the project is to create a stand-alone desktop application for the Nextcloud app Collectives. This will be implemented either as a progressive web app or based on Electron. In addition, some minor improvements will be made directly to Collectives and the Nextcloud app Text.
